The cemetery was begun in 1840. The first burial was of Elizabeth Jacobs in 1843. There are over 18,000 graves. The cemetery has two distinct sections. The un-consecrated Non-Conformist sections is from the lodge to the boundry wall roughly half way up the drive. The larger, consecrated section is beyond the boundry wall and includes the Extension and the War Plot which is found in Division 71 & 72. The map indicates the Divisons. In the text Chapel indicates the first section and Church the second, the Extension and War Plot are also stated. Right or left side of the drive refers to as you look into the cemetery with your back to the lodge.
